As a vegan, it can be difficult to find fine dining establishments that are willing to create a vegan menu. But Piccolo Lago rose to the challenge!! The menu was whimsical and delicious. The wine pairing was fantastic. The service was warm and friendly. I highly recommend a visit! Email ahead to request a vegan tasting menu!
A great experience indeed. We were there on a package that included one night in their cosy hotel Verbano, on the Isola dei Pescatori on Lago Maggiore, with a magnificent view over the Isola Bella. At 7.00 PM a private taxi boat brought us to Carciano where a taxi brought us to the restaurant. My wife has celiac desease and needs gluten free options, and we really appreciated the 8 courses "Piccola Spirale" menu, standard for me and customized to my wife needs and the superb wine pairing to accompanied the various interesting and very creative dishes. Creativity sometimes could be too daring for our taste buds, but this was not the case at Piccolo Lago.
At the end of the dinner the same taxi and taxi boat brought us back to the quaint little Island. Expectations were obviously high but were meeted if not exceeded.
BEAUTIFUL!!!
The location is beautiful, and the view from the restaurant is heavenly!
We had their historic dishes (set menu) with 3 wine pairings, and some of the dishes were unbelievable - for me, the flan was one of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted.
The bread was homemade, and melts in your mouth. Nothing I write can describe how epic the experience was - a truly immersive experience!
This one star is a rating for a 2-Michelin star restaurant compared to other Michelin restaurants. The chef choices feel like they’re are stuck in the past, some 15 years.
The view is nice but the room was so hot we had to ask for them to change us to a cooler table after we started sweating.
Service was adequate but the food was a sad sequence of easy-to-forget dishes. Definitely not worth the money.
What the food is concerned – just the desert really “impressed” me, and we are judging a 2-star Michelin here. Yes, the service and views were great, but the chef creates half of the picture, in this case particularly (if not more than that). So many ingredients and visibly a lot of effort, but I can’t say it impressed me as much as the price we eventually paid
Excellent in every way! We went as part of a big convention group in the evening. The service was impecable, the mood was very pleasant and the cuisine delicious! We didn't get the chance to explore how beautiful it is from the outside though. Excellent experience.
Not quite what I was expecting and I don't think a group of 35 people is probably the easiest number to cater for at this level all in one go.
I was a little disappointed with desert, not a lot of flavour, or more to the point the hay flavoured ice cream and lavender sorbet (in my unenlightened opinion) were possibly a little too delicate for my taste.
The service was excellent, if a little "faffy".
Well worth the trip though.
Wow. First there's the location, balanced over the water with magnificent views over the lake up to Mergozzo. Then there's the welcoming and friendly people. The food was superb with an interesting mix of tradition and modernity. The wine matching was fun and not too over-the-top. All in all a great night at a price that's definitely not cheap, but I left feeling it was definitely worth it.
